Ugly truth.

Ugly is the brainchild of three (handsome) digital self-starters, championing a creative approach to startups, scaleups and SMEs. We're a branding agency, collectively. But our individual skillsets span design, web development and verbal.

We take a multi-faceted approach to our work because we believe that great branding is so much more than just a lazy lick of paint; it's an understanding of the position you hold in your customers’ minds, a celebration of what makes you unique, and a golden opportunity to make a good first impression.

Don't get us wrong, we appreciate serif typefaces and clever uses of negative space as much as the next agency, but that's not what pays the water bill each month. Our creative kicks are born out of a love for brand and the endless amounts of fun you can have with it.

Why Ugly?

The main aim of Ugly was to create an agency that adopted a much more human approach to business, something that could effectively communicate each of our personalities and skillsets without taking itself too seriously. The name ‘Ugly’ very much embodied that because of how deliberately unexciting it is. But that’s sort of what makes it a bit exciting. Sort of.

Choose Ugly

Let’s be honest: if you honestly believe people are choosing to work with us because of our ruddy good looks, you’re wrong. We like to think people work with us because of who we are and what we offer. Sure, we could easily sit here and say: "we're the greatest thing since quilted toilet paper". But the truth is, we're fully aware we can't just use our looks to get by. Not like those beautiful folk, mind. Who get everything handed to them. Oh no. Ugly fights harder to get what it wants.

That being said, we're not put off by the fact that we have to make the extra effort. Instead, we actually celebrate the personal strengths that being ugly breeds, like having the freedom to express ourselves without ever worrying about looking daft. And—on account of our ugliness—since nothing we do to ourselves will ever really change that much, we genuinely have nothing better to do other than make everybody else look good.
